Wahoo! Arabella Miller has just been unveiled as one of four finalists at the Startups Awards 2008 in the Green Business category. The Startups Awards are organised by Crimson Business’ Startups.co.uk, in conjunction with Barclays, comprises of 17 categories, each showcasing the best new businesses in the UK. The overall winner will walk away with a £5,000 cheque. The winners will be unveiled at an awards ceremony on Thursday 30 October.  We are thrilled to be a finalist in the Green Business category and are looking forward to the event in October. It’s great that all our dedication and hard work has been recognised by Startups.co.uk, and we’re delighted to be in with a chance of not only winning the category but also the much-coveted ‘Barclays Startups Business of the Year’ prize. Startups.co.uk is the UK’s largest independent online resource for budding entrepreneurs and the Startups Awards is one of the leading events on the small business calendar.


09/19/08--09:37: I'm a Finalist In the ITV This Morning Mumpreneur Comp! (chan 2025724)

Wheee! I’m amazed to have been selected as a Finalist in the ITV This Morning competition to find the UK’s top Mumpreneur! I was selected to take part in the Northern heats from which three mums were chosen to go forward as Heat Winners. These were broadcast on 12 September 2008 - it was a bit strange seeing the day from the programme maker's perspective.  The judging panel comprised entrepreneurs Tim Campbell, Emma Harrison and Judy Naake, and the heats themselves were a cross between X-factor and Dragon’s Den - except the panel were much kinder! The next stage will be live studio finals w/b October 21st 2008.

Hello - I'm Alison and I produce funky baby clothes and organic kids clothes . I started my business after my youngest daughter developed eczema and I wanted to buy a t-shirt for her which was completely organic - including the ink! Since then my business has grown and my clothing is stocked in over 50 independent baby and childrenswear shops here in the UK and internationally. Some of these are online and run by other 'Mumpreneurs" - the internet has provided a lot of opportunities for women to start their own businesses with low overheads. I enjoy chatting to other mumpreneurs, so if anyone wants to get in touch for a natter, then please do :)
